VC23_ The evolved house
2017
SANTA PONÇA, MALLORCA, SPAIN
This renovation in Mallorca intervenes a 1900 mediterranean house by boldly dividing it into two distinct halves, creating a dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. The rear half preserves the original structure, celebrating its historical character and materiality. In contrast, the front half is transformed through the addition of a sleek concrete extension.
Engineered with post-tensioned spans, the extension eliminates the need for columns, achieving an open, unobstructed space that frames panoramic ocean views. The minimalist concrete design introduces a modern architectural language, emphasizing horizontal lines and seamless integration with the surrounding landscape.
The juxtaposition of preserved heritage and innovative design creates a dynamic interplay between the past and present, turning the house into a timeless expression of architectural evolution.
